he most difficult
aspect about hiking in the Catskills is finding the
trailheads. But once on the trails, the paths are
well marked and well maintained. This guide is designed
for beginner's and is presented to help you find these
trailheads, the length of the trails and parking which
is convenient. For more detailed and advanced hiking,
backpacking and camping information, call the DEC
office listed at the beginning of each section or
contact the NY-NJ Trail Conference, the Adirondack
Mountain Club, or Catskill 3500.
The DEC blazes each trail
with yellow, red or blue markers. It is important
to note "tag" colors of the trail you are hiking because
many of these trails intersect one another.
If you are a hiker who
enjoys solitude, it's best to visit these trails during
the week when the weather is fine.
Distances included here
are one-way. So remember, you have to come back!
