Hudson Valley Guide

If there is any single publication that is needed when considering visiting and touring around the Hudson Valley, this is it! At first glance, this diminutive little booklet is not all that impressive, however, on second look, it is crammed with information that everyone needs to plan and enjoy a trip in the Valley. It contains maps, has information on Towns, sets up itineries and suggested tours, has calendars of events, feature articles and in depth looks at intreagueing and fascinating aspects of life in the Valley.

Personally, it is one of my favorites because it simply is one of the easiest things to find while driving down the road with one hand and digging into a great heap of maps, magazines and Travel Guides with the other. It is SCREAMING YELLOW!!! Nice touch!

You can find it literally everywhere in the Valley, from gas stations to restaurants to shopping malls, it pervades the Valley. A new edition is published three times a year and features seasonal aspects of the Valley. If you want, you can call the publishers and arrange for a subscription, $6.00 annually at:

It is the closest thing to a Visitors Bible to the Hudson Valley that we have found..., except for HV/Net naturally!

I Love New York Travel Guide

This magazine format publication is prepared by the New York State Department of Economic Development Bureau of Media Services, (how's that for a mouth full...), and covers New York from the falls of Niagara to the lapping waves of Montauk. As you can imagine, it is quite dense with information, so sketchy on any details. Where it excels is in the sheer volume of listings of things to do and see, places to go, stay, sleep and play.

However, and for some odd reason, New York State and HV/Net simply do not agree on what the Hudson Valley is! They do not include the entire west bank starting at the Orange County line north! The consequence is that to really cover the Valley, you must also include the "Catskill" region from this publication. The Catskill Mountains form the western banks of the Hudson as it cuts thru them. Ah well, great minds.....

If you want a copy of this publication, it is available all over NY for free. Just stop in any Thruway Rest Area and pick it up, or any major Visitor Information Office or Booth and they will have it. Or, call 1-800-CALL-NYS and just ask for it!

Chronogram

A monthly magazine, guide and calendar to cultural events in the Hudson Valley. It is both an indispensable resource and a showcase for the finest works of Hudson Valley poets, fiction writers, artists and journalists.

You can find Chronogram in stores and various shelves all over the Middle Valley and in a few select locations toward the southern and northern ends, but it is harder to find. You can also receive copies through subscription. The subscription is for a year and costs currently $21 for the twelve issues.
