Imagine yourself
strolling a vast manicured and cultivated garden.
Great lawns give way to intimate spaces, banks
of shrubs and carefully planted groves of trees
control you view and direct your attention.
Scattered through the garden are some of the
most important monumental sculptures, framed
by water and the landscape. Round a corner in
the path and a Henry Moore looms before you.
Stroll further and a Segal grouping greets you.
Your attention is torn between the absolute
beauty of the garden and the extraordinary beauty
of the sculptures.
This is the Kendall
Sculpture Garden located at the PepsiCo World
Headquarters at Purchase. One of the great corporate
giants of the world, PepsiCo Headquarters is
situated within a vast park, surrounded by 160
acres of manicured gardens and groves of carefully
planted trees. Scattered in the garden are more
than 40 sculptures situated in small intimate
spaces, out on the lawns and surrounding the
lake. As you walk the circular path around the
gardens you stumble on vistas and art, enter
small spaces and emerge into sun bright lawns.
Everywhere you wander you are provided with
changing plantings and scenery of extraordinary
beauty.
The public is invited
to enjoy the gardens surrounding the corporate
headquarters. All you have to do is follow the
sometimes confusing little signs to the parking
area reserved for garden visitors. Approach
the kiosk and get your map, then stroll at your
own pace through the gardens. You'll have a
wonderful time exploring the gardens and appreciating
the sculptures. Enjoy a lazy afternoon walking
and pausing. Then go back at a different time
of year and see the incredible difference!
