Perched atop a bluff high
above the majestic Hudson River, Boscobel is America's
premier museum of Federal furnishings and interior
decorations. Housed in Boscobel is the most extraordinary
collection of Federal domestic furnishings to be found
anywhere.
Not its original location,
the house was moved to this location to save it from
the wrecking ball. Out on the Great Front Lawn you
are treated to one of the most spectacular vistas
to be found anywhere in the Hudson Valley. Below you
lies Constitution Marsh, across the river high atope
a prominent bluff is West Point.
Strategically located
during the American Revolution, West Point controls
the river from its bluff as ships of the day had to
'tack' around the point making two ninety degree turns.
From the point, Washington's Army could dominate all
transportation up and down the river. And remember,
the river was the only means of transportation!
Boscobel is a marvelous
stop along your journey through the Hudson Valley.
Enjoy the house, the views from the lawn, tarry in
the magnificent rose garden and take a quiet stroll
down the nature path. |
