Far from being a static
museum, Huguenot Street in New Paltz, Ulster County,
is a living place. The historic 18th century houses
are interspersed between occupied houses and the New
Reformed Church. Cars travel along Huguenot Street
between destinations in New Paltz and children bike
back and forth.
Across from the brick
church are the Freer House & Abraham Hasbrouck houses,
both restored and open to the public. Directly across
from the picture location is a white late Victorian
home, now the site of the Huguenot Historical Society's
library. Across the road from the library is the Bevier-Elting
house.
Down that road is the
main Visitor Center for the street, your first stop
on a visit to Huguenot Street. To take a Virtual Tour
