A popular place to spend
a summer day is Tallman Mountain State Park in Rockland
County. The park has extensive trails, picnicking
areas and a wonderful public pool.
The pool is down on a
bluff overlooking the Piermont Marsh. The marsh is
the largest remaining brackish tidal marsh on the
Hudson River. It includes about 1,000 acres of tidal
marsh and sub-tidal shallows. Sitting by the pool
perched high above the marsh is a favorite location
to watch the many species of birds and other wildlife
that make the marsh their home.
The pool complex is easily
accessible to and from the Village of Piermont as
well. Below the pool, an improved cinder pathway leads
north along the edge of the marsh across to Piermont,
a very short distance away. It's an easy stroll to
reach the Village where you can find enticing cafes,
interesting bistros and basic shopping to get a picnic
or have a picnic created for you. |
