The Rose Garden and Formal
Garden at the Vanderbilt Mansion form a foil to the
surrounding Romantic Landscape. Contrary to this tiered
and structured presentation, the surrounding landscape
is conceived as a contrived naturalistic and controlled
pallet. The Rose Garden and Formal Garden are created
as a highly structured set piece, a presentation of
the gardeners talent.
Contained on the bottom
two tiers of a six tier garden, the Rose Garden contains
hundreds of species and hybrid tea bushes scenting
the air with thousands of blooms in high season. At
the bottom of the garden is the Italian Gazebo where
you can sit and enjoy the colorful show.
These gardens are a favorite
setting for weddings and other celebrations. Once
