Lewis Park is the heart
of Warwick's Historic District. Located within the
park is the Old School Baptist Church and the 1810
House. Across the street is the landmark Greek Revival
Village Hall. Surrounding the park are 19th century
houses, an old firehouse turned into a vibrant cafe
and an old brick church turned into an antiques mall.
Warwick's Historic District
is officially designated as a National Historic Landmark
District, governed by the Warwick Historical Society.
Buildings as old as the American Revolution are maintained
by the Society. During the warm months, the Society
accepts guests for tours on a very limited schedule,
so check in advance for the times and dates.
Warwick and its unique
buildings, have been used in many films and commercials,
most recently in the feature film "In & Out." Howard
'came out' at his wedding, shot in the Old School
Baptist Church. Michael Jackson used a cornfield just
outside of town for one of his music videos, and other
films use locations in and around Warwick on a regular
basis.
Warwick's unique charm,
its small town ambiance, and its belief in maintaining
the best of its past while moving into the future,
all make for a very special place. |
