Locals and tourists alike
hang out on the Village Green in the heart of vibrant,
eclectic and hip Woodstock.
Located in the eastern
heart of the Catskills, Woodstock has long been associated
with the avant garde, bohemian and artsy crowd. True
to these traditions, Woodstock continues to be a center
of creativity and the hip culture. Stroll along Tinker
Street and enjoy window shopping, from counter culture
artifacts to chic boutiques, from armoatherapy supplies
to high end electronics, from earth shoes to Armani,
its all here in Woodstock.
Finding art can be as
simple as wandering into the Woodstock Guild Gallery,
or the Center for Art and Photography. Changing shows
bring a constantly fresh sampling of the best that
Woodstock has to offer. Down the road make sure to
catch a concert or performance at the Maverick Theatre,
Woodstock's local venu for the performing arts. And
make sure to take the walking tour of Byrdcliffe,
the original "art colony" of Woodstock.
To relax your shopped
out feet, take a quick respite on the Village Green
and watch the parade. Woodstock attracts an extraordinary
collection of people from around the world. Stay for
a little while and you'll see everything from sari
clad Indian ladies to colorfully clad locals.
Or, play the game, "Find
the Hippie", if you dare! Once the focus of the 60's
culture, Woodstock has shed that persona, on the surface
at least. Just remember, anyone under 30 doesn't count! |
