Archaeological excavations have revealed most of the structures and fortifications of the fort, each with interpretive signs explaining both the structure and the battle. Spectacular view of the Hudson as it twists into the Hudson Highlands from Peekskill Bay, the strategic reason for the location of the fort. Open daily dawn to dusk. Parking is a challenge to find, watch for a small brown sign next to an abandoned garage over the bridge to the north of the site. | |

| | Huguenot Street holds the distinction of being the "oldest street in America with its original houses". Huguenot Street, a national historic landmark, is located on a slight promontory above the banks of the Wallkill River at the western edge of the Village of New Paltz. The site compromises a collection of house museums with construction dates from 1692 through 1890. The settlement was originally the focus of a 39,683 acre Royal Patent granted to the French refugees on May 26, 1677. The homes are furnished with heirloom and period pieces that reflect their multi-generational family ownership. Included at the site are five Colonial era stone houses, a Federal period house, and a late Victorian house. Also, the French Church and burying ground, a library, carriage museum, museum, gift shop and picnic facilities. Adjacent to the site is the Huguenot Trail and Wildlife Sanctuary. Guided Tours 2 1/2 hours -- leaves at 9:30am and 1:30pm, Adults $7, Senior Citizens $6, Children under 12 $3.50, children under 7 free. | | | The history and prominence of West Point is legendary and its role in the formation of the United States precedes the American Revolution. West Point's tactical position and geographic importance were pivotal to the Patriot's cause and proved to be the hub around which the American Revolution turned. It was never lost during the Revolution and proved its importance in binding the Northern Colonies of New England to the Mid-Atlantic and Southern Colonies, maintaining open trade routes allowing raw goods and manufactured goods to continue to flow.
West Point Military Academy, located at West Point, is the oldest military academy in America. Visitors are restricted and are asked to go to the Visitor Information Center upon arrival. The Center is open daily from 9:00 to 4:45 and is located a few hundred yards south of the main gate. Guided coach tours of West Point are available for a small fee.
The West Point Museum at Pershing Center is open seven days a week, from 10:30 to 4:15. Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. No admission, donations are accepted. The Museum has six new exhibition galleries which include the history of West Point and Corps of Cadets and a Small and Large Weapons Gallery.
The public is also invited to attend the many concerts and performances held on the post, ranging from theatrical presentations in Eisenhower Hall to outdoors concerts of the Cadet Band in the amphitheater located at Trophy Point. | | | Completed in 1898, the residence was designed by the firm of McKim, Mead, and White. The building is an early example of steel frame construction; Indiana limestone forms the facade. It was to remain in the Vanderbilt family for over four decades as their center for entertaining in the Spring and Fall. The cost of construction and furnishings was nearly two million dollars. | | | The lovely old house on Constitution Island was the home of the Warner family from 1836 to 1915. Susan and Anna Warner were well known writers in the 19th century. Susan wrote "The Wide, Wide World" in 1850 which became a best seller of its day. Anna is best known for writing the words to the hymn "Jesus Loves Me". The sisters taught Bible classes to West Point cadets for forty years.
The oldest part of the Warner House includes a thick stone wall existing from Revolutionary War days. The Victorian wing of eight rooms was built by Henry Warner in 1836 when he moved his family from New York City to the island. The house is furnished with original Warner family possessions. The Warner House is a living museum and is kept as nearly as possible as it was when Miss Anna Warner lived there until her death in 1915.
Two tours a day, every Wednesday and Thursday at 1 and 2pm from June thru September. Tour includes boat ride to and from island. Guided tour of Revolutionary War fortifications and seventeen room Warner House. Reservations required.
