The Columbia County Historical Society is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of Columbia County. The Society owns an operates three5eye historic properties, open to the public during the summer season, and a museum, open year-round. All of the properties owned by the Society, (James Vanderpool House c. 1820, Luykas Van Alen Youse 1737, Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse & Columbia County Museum), are conveniently located within a few miles of each other in Kinderhook. Visitors can easily enjoy discovering Columbia County's history at all of the sites in one day.

Hours of Operation
Museum and Library: Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, some Saturdays 1pm to 4pm. Rest of year Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10am to 4pm, some Saturdays 1pm to 4pm. Closed all Federal Holidays. Call to confirm Saturday hours.

A National Historic Landmark, this 250 acre hilltop estate with Moorish style villa of Frederic Edwin Church, internationally famous Hudson River School artist. Main residence designed by Church and Calvert Vaux in eclectic combination of Oriental and Moorish decorative elements on basic Italianate villa form. The house was built in two stages from 1870-72 and then from 1888-89. The house contains an elaborate interior with original furnishings. Grounds open all year offering hiking trails, cross country skiing and magnificent views of the Hudson River.

Guided tours: April-October (Tue-Sun) 10am-5pm, Nov (Tue-Sun) 10am-4pm, Jan-Mar (weekends) 10am-4pm.

Home of American Revolutionary War general and statesman, Philip Schuyler, built in 1762. Most of the interior was finished under his personal direction in 1763 and 1764.

The mansion is open mid April thru October on Wednesdays thru Sundays. Also open Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Come, visit the site of America's first Shaker settlement. Begin with a visit to the museum or the gift shop, then pick up your guide to the Shaker site, the herb garden and buildings, the trails around the Ann Lee Pond Nature Preserve, and the Shaker Cemetery where the founder, Ann Lee, and other early Shakers are buried.

America's first Shaker settlement. Educational programs on the Shakers and their regional influence are presented by the Shaker Heritage Society. The site includes the eight original buildings, an herb garden, orchard, cemetery and gift shop.
